Objectives, events and agenda of Formula SAE BRASIL.
Formula SAE Brasil is an exclusive student competition, with the objective to provide engineering students the opportunity to put in practice all the adquired knowledge in classroom, throughout the development from scrap of a formula type car Project. The competition takes place annually in Piracicaba – Sao Paulo, usually at the end of the year, engaging dozens of universities from all over Brazil. The first two guarantee a position in Formula Student International, performed in Michigan – USA and Lincoln/NE – USA.
The vehicles perform in dynamic and static events, evaluating the project and performance of each prototype. In static events, each team must detail the engineering used in the construction of the car, as well as cost managment and a business simulation event. As for the dynamic events, they check out the vehicles effectiveness on track, such as acceleration, drivability, endurance and consumption.
The competition is guided by rules applied by SAE International. That way, it’s necessary that the cars pass through a scrutineering event to verify if all the norms of construction are attended. Afterwards, the cars recieve approval stickers and are than authorized in the dynamics events.
The events are distributed as follows:
Business:: the business presentation simulates a meeting in which the team must sell their business plans to investors of a company that sells the vehicles that the team develops.
Manufacturing and costs: the event evaluates how the team builds the prototype, having as main objective to judge the costs and processes used in each part of the vechicle.
Design:the design event evaluates the engineering used in the projects and if it attends the market as for vehicle performance and if it stands out in general.
Acceleration: evaluates the vehicles performance in a 75 meters straight line.
Skid pad: evaluates the vehicles turning performance on a double circled track with an external radius of 10,6m.
Autocross: the car runs two laps in a restrained track, in which the drivability and performance of the car are evaluated.
Endurance: endurance consists in a 22 lap race, with approximately 1km per lap, with the objective to evaluate its resistance, reliability and performance of the car.
Efficiency:: the efficiency of the car is measured based on the endurance event. After completing the circuit, the tank is filled up to calculate how much fuel was used.
